Vitra Home Collection
The projects of the great designers Charles & Ray Eames, George Nelson, Isamu Noguchi, Jean Prouvé and Verner Panton are the essence of the company that has been furnishing interior spaces with a wide range of excellent products for years, creating work environments and public spaces that satisfy the most varied needs. The Vitra Home Collection includes classic and contemporary furniture, lighting and accessories for private interiors.
Among the brand's most successful products, Vitra collection of armchairs is the synthesis of the encounter between the elegance of the classic and the practicality of the modern. The variety of shapes and materials make the seats versatile and suitable for any environment: offices, living rooms, private studios. Icon of the brand is the Lounge Chair, designed by Charles and Ray Eames, a triumph of comfort and beauty. Covered in leather and with a wooden structure, it is the quintessential symbol of 20th century design.
Vitra chairs are suitable for any type of furniture and environment: home living, office and public space. They stand out for their minimal design, faithful to the aesthetic rigor and simplicity of the brand's shapes. The chairs made for office furniture reflect the revolutionary concept of Club Office, conceived by Robert Propst for the company. Most notably, the office chair, Vitramat, was the first large-scale ergonomic solution.
“Vitra's Color and Material Library encourages creative freedom and turn on the imagination - not by making everything possible, but by providing a clear visualization of options,” says Hella Jongerius, Vitra's Art Director for Colors and Materials for many years. The dutch designer created the Vitra Color & Material Library, a system that allows the versatile combination of different materials and colors throughout the company's vast product collection.
Vitra's library of colors and materials boasts an unusual variety of fabrics and leathers, solid materials, colors and textures of plastic, metals, and wood. Every part of the library forms a system of coherent combinations that facilitate the choice for architects, interior designers or private clients who wish to furnish their interiors with an original collage of colors and materials with a strong aesthetic identity.
The study and processing of color also characterizes the Eames chairs in fiberglass, while, for the new fiberglass armchairs, Vitra has chosen an original palette: Elephant Hide Gray, Eames Sea Foam Green, Eames Raw Umber and Eames Parchment. The shells, in natural and sober colors, are organically modeled. The result is a neutral aesthetic that makes the chairs suitable for a wide range of different environments.
Vitra undertakes an intense pre-production phase which involves the selection of the finest materials and tests that simulate fifteen years of use.
Style over time
“Vitra's greatest contribution to sustainability is the creation of products that skip non-essential elements and last a long time. Our roots in modern design would allow for nothing else, "says Nora Fehlbaum, CEO of Vitra. The brand's approach to sustainability was fueled by Charles and Ray Eames for whom product longevity is a key aspect to help develop a production with a reduced environmental impact. Therefore, Vitra's motto is to avoid in every way the short-lived style and to follow the example of antique furniture that last decades, know owners, environments and different eras, becoming part of an eternal collection.
