Material colours

“Vitra's Color and Material Library encourages creative freedom and turn on the imagination - not by making everything possible, but by providing a clear visualization of options,” says Hella Jongerius, Vitra's Art Director for Colors and Materials for many years. The dutch designer created the Vitra Color & Material Library, a system that allows the versatile combination of different materials and colors throughout the company's vast product collection.

Vitra's library of colors and materials boasts an unusual variety of fabrics and leathers, solid materials, colors and textures of plastic, metals, and wood. Every part of the library forms a system of coherent combinations that facilitate the choice for architects, interior designers or private clients who wish to furnish their interiors with an original collage of colors and materials with a strong aesthetic identity.

The study and processing of color also characterizes the Eames chairs in fiberglass, while, for the new fiberglass armchairs, Vitra has chosen an original palette: Elephant Hide Gray, Eames Sea Foam Green, Eames Raw Umber and Eames Parchment. The shells, in natural and sober colors, are organically modeled. The result is a neutral aesthetic that makes the chairs suitable for a wide range of different environments.

Long life design

Vitra undertakes an intense pre-production phase which involves the selection of the finest materials and tests that simulate fifteen years of use.
